TThe Heat and Material Balance are distinguishing if not defining elements of Chemical Engineering. Central to every curriculum and a core upon which all other concepts are built, the Heat and Materials Balance courses utilize an array of mathematical and conceptual formalisms that when mastered are among the most powerful and versatile tools that the Chemical Engineer has at his or her disposal. The Century of Process Principles has offered a number of formalisms; How do they differ? How have they evolved? Have they adapted to changes in other curricular content? Might how we teach Process Principles need to change as we enter the century of nano-science and nano-technology? Authors of a number of the leading texts on process analysis will be presenting their perspectives on these and other questions.
