The final goal of this project is to promote the biomass-orientated regional material and energy circulations, to nurture the growth of the sustainable society. In order to develop the regional material and energy circulations, we have drawn up a plan of ?Biomass Town? to meet the situation in local communities. The basic concept of Biomass Town is to utilize the biomass resources obtained in the region efficiently and economically, minimizing the waste energy and materials. It is important to understand individuality of the region for successful energy and material circulations.

The authors have developed the method to design and analysis of the biomass utilization systems based on the concept of Biomass Town. This method involved the following analyses algorithms: i.e., biomass availability, biomass collection/transportation, biomass utilization process design and environmental impact. In this presentation, a biomass town simulator with the above algorithms is shown with some examples of the Biomass Town systems designed for existing regions (local communities), comparing the results obtained by the simulator and the field demonstration work.
