(513d) What¢s What for Faculty Seeking Ready-Made Bio Curriculum

Komives, C. - Presenter, San Jose State University

The demand for college graduates who are skilled in applying chemical engineering principles to biological applications is growing. At the same time, students are eager to embark upon life science-based careers. Traditional chemical engineering education, with a focus on petroleum and commodity chemical processing, appears to be due for a facelift. However, few resources are available to facilitate faculty to make the shift towards incorporation of life science applications. Likewise, enticing and enabling faculty who have not had any formal training in biotechnology to participate in the bio movement can be thorny. This brief talk will summarize the materials currently accessible to faculty who wish to add more bioX into their courses, including a review of their utility. A handout will be provided to the attendees summarizing the list described in the presentation.
