Semantic Technologies get increasing attention to define the semantics of information and services provided by the World Wide Web. Though the web is the major driver for research and development on semantic technologies, the resulting methods and tools constitute a perfect foundation to design and implement engineering design and operational support functionality. The talk discusses information and workflow modeling by means of an extensible and structured ontology to capture process engineering knowledge. It is further shown by means of case studies how the resulting ontology can be used to build industrial strength software applications for selected tasks in the product and process lifecycle.
