The use of microwaves is making inroads into many processes such as chemical synthesis and firing ceramics. Previous research on microwaves has revealed the significant effect of microwaves on reaction acceleration; yield improvement and selectivity enhancement through different reaction pathways. Fundamentally, microwaves heat things differently than conventional means. The present study is an attempt to apply microwaves and study the dilute acid hydrolysis of cellulosic wastes. Product is analyzed with HPLC with refractive index detector. The analysis of results reveals that dilute acid hydrolysis of cellulose follows first order kinetics. The rate constant and activation energies have also been estimated.
