Ceramic nanofibers are synthesized by electrospinning polymer ? metal organic mixtures. These fibers are combined with microfibers to form ceramic composite filters. Such filters can be used to efficiently filter submicron sized particles from high temperature gases. The fiber surfaces can be augmented with catalysts to make the filters chemically react with gases and particulates. Because the ceramics are inert at high temperatures the filters can be regenerated by heating to remove combustible particles. This paper will discuss recent developments to make ceramic nanofiber filter media.
