SBE's James Bailey Award Lecture

The Society for Biological Engineering’s Bailey award, endowed by Cytos Biotechnology, recognizes outstanding contributions in the field of biological engineering. In memory of Professor James Bailey for his many pioneering contributions to biotechnology, this year the award is being presented to three individuals who have had an important impact on biomedical engineering and whose achievements have advanced this profession in any of its aspects. The team consists of Professors Robert Langer of MIT, Edwin Lightfoot of the University of Wisconsin, and Nicholas Peppas of the University of Texas, Austin. They are being recognized for their work in the field of biomedical engineering. Professor Langer is best known for his work in transdermal drug delivery. Professor Lightfoot is recognized for his work in biological mass-transfer and separations processes. Professor Peppas is known for the development of biomedical and drug-delivery applications of polymer networks and hydrogels. All three are members of the National Academy of Engineering. Professor Langer will be delivering the Bailey Award Lecture titled "Biomedical and Chemical Engineering: Status and Future Directions."
