Workshop on Assessing Teaching

In this workshop we explore eleven criteria for excellence in teaching through undergraduate courses and graduate student supervision. For each, measures and example forms of evidence are suggested. Research evidence is summarized on the validity of student’s course evaluations. Sixteen forms of evidence related to excellence in teaching are discussed. Practice is given gathering and presenting such evidence. Excellence in teaching is contrasted with scholarship in teaching; the focus of this workshop is on excellence in teaching. Please bring to the workshop an example of the student course evaluation used in your college; your course syllabus for one of the courses you teach; and, if your wish, your teaching dossier.
