Topic:  Patents and Intellectual Property: From Invention to Value

Most chemical engineers are aware of patents but the details of getting from invention to realizing value can be elusive.  This talk will cover many of the aspects of the patent process and how to use patents to create value.  First it is important to understand some of the basics about patents such as what are the requirements to obtain a patent, what rights does a patent holder have, what if there are multiple inventors and how much does it cost?  If you have a patentable invention what is the process required to get patent coverage?  Then the topic of value is discussed including what is a patent strategy, how can patents create value, what are the ways to leverage this value, should I license this patent and how much is this patent worth?

Speaker:         Peter Hanik, BSChE, MBA, PE
