Welcome to the Detroit Local Section community site!

In 2015, a group of AIChE members in the Detroit area decided to reinvigorate the Detroit Local Section.  On November 19, our kick-off event was graciously sponsored by DTE Energy.  Steven Kurmas, President and Chief Operating Officer, welcomed the twenty plus AIChE members before turning the floor over to Skiles Boyd, Vice President Environmental Management Resources.  Skiles’ presentation “Implications of EPA’s Clean Power Plant: What is the cost and how it will affect you?” sparked lively conversation from both sides of the oil/gas and electric power debate.  He also gave insight on how the policy will impact the electrical power generation infrastructure in Michigan.  It was a great evening in the “D”.

In 2016, our goal is to increase member participation and membership in Detroit LS by providing diverse events throughout the year that will engage and entertain our members.  Through this increased activity we hope to drive enough interest in the Detroit LS so that the 2017 officers elections will have numerous candidates vying for positions.  If you have event ideas or are interested in participating with the interim board to plan activites send us an email.

I hope you all come out and join us this year.  Be sure to check the events page to see what we have planned.  Looking forward to a great year for the Detroit AIChE Local Section.
