Coloring Book Communicator
“I come from a family where art and science is split right down the middle. My mother and brother are musicians and my father is a chemical engineer.”
“And I was always a doodler, scribbling pictures on top of homework assignments as a way of helping me connect the dots.”
“Eventually, I followed in my father’s footsteps and pursued a career in chemical engineering, but I always believed that science can be creative.”
“That led me to develop a line of coloring books, called ColorMePhD, to help future scientists understand complex scientific concepts.”
“Today, my focus is on heterogeneous catalysis, and plastic upcycling — taking plastic waste and breaking it down through chemical catalysis.”
“Instead of throwing our plastic away into landfills, we can convert it, and create really cool things.”
“After earning my PhD from UC Berkeley and doing post-doctoral work at MIT, I am now leading my own lab as an assistant professor at the University of Washington.”
“And doodling my way to future findings.”
