Atomically Precise Manufacturing (APM) refers to the newly emerging capabilities to produce materials and devices that are virtually defect-free.  Approaches include new methods for atomically precise catalystsself-assembly of engineered molecular building blockspositional assembly using scanning probe microscopes, and positional assembly using molecular machine systems.  The qualitative differences between APM and conventional technologies are discussed in this presentation.
