Proper management of waste streams generated by hazardous materials is important for ensuring worker safety and reducing environmental impact. This presentation explores good practices related to mitigating complex vapor mixtures emitted from hazardous wastes. Guidance is provided on developing and testing appropriate technology or technologies for the removal or destruction of unique hazardous vapor mixtures. Mitigation strategies for emissions from the Hanford Tank Farms, which contain millions of gallons of radioactive chemical waste in 177 underground storage tanks, will be used as a case study to demonstrate the do's and don'ts of implementing a novel technology for the control of hazardous waste emissions.
