Steam is one of the most common sources of process heat in industry. In many industries, and regions, fossil fuel is the primary energy source for generating process steam, which adds to the organization's GHG emissions totals. There are mature and emerging technologies available for lowering or eliminating carbon emissions from the generation of steam. In this presentation, an overview of options for low, or no, carbon emission steam generation will be presented. This presentation will review biomass steam generation, electric boiler technologies, and heat pump systems and will come from the speaker's perspective of past and current projects.
