(77b) A Tribute to Doug Leng - Dow Impact and Legacy

In this memorial tribute to Doug Leng we first provide an overview of Doug’s beginnings at Dow, and highlight the impact he had on the Dow research community. His vision and leadership resulted in the establishment of the Process Fundamentals Research Laboratories at Dow, which have evolved into the Engineering and Process Sciences organization of today, including the Fluid Mechanics and Mixing group. He championed the incorporation of state-of the art experimentalmethods and employing the latest numerical techniques to better understand mixing phenomena in industrial equipment and achieve improve process performance. We highlight his passion for mentoring, training, and developing expertise in the next generation of engineers. His accomplishments, which have been recognized by AIChE through election to Fellow in 1989, by Dow through bestowing on him the prestigious H. H. Dow Medal in 1993, and by NAMF as the NAMF Award winner in 1995, are presented.
