Hydrogen peroxide as one of the most important chemicals is currently produced via the industrial anthraquinone process, which is however energy- and waste-intensive. Here I would like to present our past several years’ research focusing on electrochemical synthesis of hydrogen peroxide from air and water. We designed highly selective oxygen reduction reaction catalysts and water oxidation reaction catalysts for efficient generation of hydrogen peroxide from both cathode and anode. Additionally, the design of solid electrolyte reactor enables a direct and continuous generation of high purity hydrogen peroxide solutions with no need of product separation processes.
