Coumarin derivatives are widely used as active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and organic fluorescent dyes, because they are easy to introduce substituents and exhibit various biological activities according to the type of substituent. They are used as colorants for fuel oil identification, fluorescent brightening agents for washing, and dyes for wavelength correction filters in various displays, light-emitting devices, and so on. When one uses in these applications, high absorbance and luminescence intensity can be obtained by using coumarin derivatives with high solvent solubility. Good solubility in organic solvents is required. Therefore, solubility data of coumarin derivatives in solvents are essential physical property. However, the solubility of coumarin derivatives in various solvents has not been well investigated.

The objective of this work is to determine the solubility of coumarin derivatives in selected organic solvents. We selected 7-diethylamino-4-methylcoumarin as the coumarin derivative, and several alcohols, esters, and acetonitrile as the organic solvents. The solubility measurements were done by the synthetic method [1]. The experimental solubility data were correlated by the Ott and Goates model, which is a polynomial of composition, and the NRTL model.
