Waste plastic is a significant global challenge, especially in infrastructure limited countries. However, using appropriate technology to convert plastic waste into fuel oil, a locally managed, decentralized circular economy can be established. Providing an economic value to waste plastic can benefit the environment as well as the local community. Novel research conducted in collaboration with Makerere University in Uganda and the non-profit organizations Empowered Solutions for Environmental Sustainability and Upcycle Africa focused on implementing a circular economy for plastic waste in Uganda will be presented.
