(214a) The Hard Skills of Emotional Intelligence for Effective Engineering Leaders

Authors

High performing teams and leaders with emotional intelligence are more likely to achieve their goals. This workshop featuring Dr David Caruso of Yale's Center for Emotional Intelligence, focuses on the ability model of emotional intelligence and begins with a hands-on illustration of the four “hard” skills of EI, followed by demonstrations of the notion that “emotions are data” and the cognitive costs of emotion suppression. After a review of a brief case study, we then provide participants with a means to apply these skills to situations faced by leaders in engineering using the Emotional Intelligence Blueprint.
