(212c) Optimization Frameworks As Discovery Tools in Metabolic Networks and Protein Design

In this talk, we will discuss the impact and influences that C. Floudas had in the way I approached problems and formulated solution strategies in my career as an academic. I will highlight a few examples form earlier efforts employing bilevel optimization for strain design to more recent work on the parameterization of kinetic models of metabolism. Throughout all examples, the importance of precision and rigor in problem description and solution methodology mentored by C. Floudas will be highlighted.
