NEW YORK CITY – The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) announced that Michael P. Harold, M.D. Anderson Professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at the University of Houston, will become editor of the AIChE Journal, its flagship research and development publication. Harold will replace Stanley I. Sandler, who is retiring with the December issue after more than 10 years in that position.

The first Middle East Process Engineering Conference and Exhibition (MEPEC) is scheduled for October 23 to 26 at the Gulf International Convention Centre in Manama, Bahrain. Its initial focus will be on determining the optimal roles and approaches for chemical engineers addressing water access, purification and sanitation, and the “water-energy nexus,” the relationship between the energy footprint of water and the water footprint of energy.

The new award recognizes individuals or teams working in the industries served by chemical engineers for innovation that has resulted in the successful commercial development of new products or new processes for making useful processes.
