2011-2012 ScaleUp Sponsor Awards

The sponsors of AIChE's ScaleUp Program, in conjunction with AIChE, are offering $500 scholarships to be given out as cash awards and travel grants for this year’s Annual Student Conference. To qualify for these scholarship opportunties, students must (1) have a declared major in chemical engineering at a U.S. or Canadian college or university, (2) complete the written essay component for the sponsor award of their choice. Please keep your submissions to 500 words or less. While you may apply for as many grants as you like, you will only be selected the winner of one (1) award.

Please send your completed essay, along with your contact information, to rivam@aiche.orgPlease note: deadline has been extended to Thursday, September, 29th, 2011. Please include "2011 Annual Student Conference Scholarship" and the sponsor name in the subject of your email. Submissions will be forwarded to the appropriate sponsor for review. Decisions will be made by Friday, October, 7th, 2011.

Topic: Dow connects chemistry and innovation with the principles of sustainability to help address many of the world's most challenging problems such as the need for clean water, renewable energy generation and conservation, and increasing agricultural productivity. Describe how you, as a chemical engineer, would approach these challenges while embracing the principles of sustainability. Please answer in 500 words or less.

Young Professional Advisory Board Award

The Young Professional Advisory Board of AIChE is offering three $300 travel awards to deserving undergraduate students to attend the 2011 Student National Conference in Minneapolis, MN.  The purpose of this award is to (1) help a student who does not have the financial means to go to the conference and (2) identify an emerging leader in chemical engineering and AIChE that shows strong commitment toward the institute and field of chemical engineering.  To qualify for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
 
1. Must have a declared major in chemical engineering
2. Must be or have been an officer in their university AIChE chapters
3. Must have a GPA higher than 2.75 / 4.00
4. Must demonstrate how this scholarship will benefit them. Students must demonstrate a desire to be involved in AIChE after graduation.
5. Must interact with the Young Professionals Advisory Board and attend our monthly teleconferences.
6. Have not previously been awarded this scholarship.

Please write a paragraph of no more than ½ page (12pt font) on how AIChE shaped your undergraduate career and how you plan to stay involved in AIChE after graduation.  In your paragraph, please include a justification on why you would need financial aid to attend the conference. Your resume or CV is required for this application.
