2009 Recipient - Professor James C. Liao
In 2009, SBE awarded the James E. Bailey Award, endowed by Cytos Biotechnology, to Professor James Liao, for his research and advancements in metabolic engineering and systems biology. Dr. Liao is the Chancellor Professor at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles. His research focuses on metabolic engineering and systems biology principles to produce next generation biofuels and the development of novel gene-metabolic circuits for use in bioenergy. Dr. Liao is also investigating fat metabolism in hepatocytes and nitric oxide signaling in both human and bacteria.
Professor Liao will give his award lecture at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ Annual meeting on Tuesday, November 10th at 6:00 – 7:00 pm (EST). The title of his talk is “A tale of two energy problems: Fuel shortage and obesity.”
