Impellers

Impellers are used for a variety of applications in mixing. Some of these applications include: blending, heat transfer, solids suspension and solids drawdown, gas dispersion, and immiscible liquid-liquid suspension. For each of these applications, there are certain classes of impellers that typically perform best. The most favorable type of impeller for a certain application will depend on whether the flow regime is turbulent, transitional, or laminar. This article discusses how an impeller pumps fluids, and describes the various impeller classes. Lastly, it recommends which class of impeller to use for a given application.
