Coolant Transforms and Chills — Just Add Water

images

Frosty Tech coolant provides perpetual chilling without a power source. Adding water of any quality, including seawater, transforms the powdered cooling agent into a sub-freezing product. It becomes colder than ice in 10–30 seconds, and can maintain this temperature for several hours, even in ambient temperatures up to 95°F (35°C). The coolant powder can be regenerated and reused hundreds of times by allowing the water to evaporate; the regenerated powder retains 100% of its original cooling ability. The product can be adapted to any custom shape or volume, and to flexible or rigid packaging, and can be formulated to achieve almost any freezing point or temperature desired. It is recyclable and does not contain any toxic chemicals.

Elastomers Let Light Through

images

LUMISIL 590 and LUMISIL 591 are transparent, addition-curing silicone elastomers. With a high refractive index of 1.53, these grades are suitable for manufacturing light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The silicone protects the sensitive LED chip from mechanical influences and corrosive gases, while the material’s high refractive index enables optimum light efficiency. The transparent silicone allows almost all light in the visible spectral range (approximately 400–700 nm) to pass through, and it will not yellow even when subjected to intense radiation. LUMISIL 590 is relatively soft, whereas LUMISIL 591 is formulated to be significantly harder.

Rupture-Disc Monitoring Unit Is Reusable

images

The NIMU (non-invasive monitoring unit) is a rupture-disc monitor that provides reliable information about the way a bursting disc responds to positive and negative pressure. The unit is installed so that it is isolated from the process medium, making it suitable for critical processes and applications that require the entire system to be completely impermeable. The design is based on intrinsically safe, closed-circuit technology, which allows it to be easily integrated into an existing process control system using terminal boxes and isolating amplifiers. The device can be reused after a rupture disc has opened; the only requirement is that the rupture disc itself be replaced, and this can be done without opening the pipeline.

Drum Dumper Transfers Materials without Creating Dust

images

The TIP-TITE mobile drum dumper enables dust-free transfer of bulk materials from drums into process equipment and storage vessels. It is mounted on a mobile frame with quick-action floor jacks for stable operation. A hydraulic cylinder raises the drum carriage, sealing the drum rim against a discharge cone, after which a second hydraulic cylinder tips the carriage-hood assembly and drum, stopping at a preset dump angle of 45 deg., 60 deg., or 90 deg. As the assembly approaches its fully tipped position, the outlet of the discharge cone mates with a gasketed receiving-ring inlet fitted to existing process equipment or to the lid of an optional hopper with integral pneumatic, tubular cable, or flexible screw conveyor, creating a dust-tight seal. Once the discharge cone is seated against the gasket, a pneumatically actuated slide-gate valve opens to allow material to enter the receiving vessel.

Electronic Pressure-Compensation System Improves Reliability

An electronic pressure-compensation (EPC) system is now available with the manufacturer’s high-accuracy loss-in-weight feeders, or it can be retrofitted to existing feeders, even in systems with perceivable pressure fluctuations. In a closed feeding system, pressure buildup inside a feeder can significantly impair weighing accuracy. Typical mechanical pressure-compensation systems are sensitive to structural factors and machine alignment, making reliability an issue. This electronic device ensures accurate and steady pressure compensation in feeder hoppers, has a lower initial cost, and is easier to install than mechanical systems. Sensors can be positioned on the feeder hopper and, if required, on the material discharge tube.
