This webinar provides an overview and introduction to “TRIZ” (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving”), a “left brained” problem solving process based on patterns of invention in the global patent literature. As opposed to “right brained” approaches such as brainstorming, CPS, and DeBono techniques, TRIZ uses the few distinct invention principles contained in the entire patent literature, minimizing the amount of time spent evaluating non-useful ideas.
Breakthrough problem solving and inventions have at their core a fundamental principle and that is that they resolve a significant contradiction, as opposed to “optimizing” and minimizing the pain from alternative approaches. This webinar explains the patent literature basis of TRIZ, reviews its basic problem solving algorithm, and shows how its inventive principles are used to resolve contradictions and achieve ideal engineering results. It also explains how TRIZ can add value to problem identification techniques such as Six Sigma and QFD.
