Maintenance and Reliability for Chemical Engineers - Part 1: The Evolution to Asset Management

Today’s US manufacturing environment is challenged to meet safety, cost, and productivity goals from shifting geographical growth, less innovative opportunity, increasing customer demands, increased regulations, and Asian competition. Manufacturers require a greater return on their assets to compete in the marketplace. They need to optimize the total cost of ownership of their assets by having them produce the most, for the longest time, and for the lowest cost. Maintenance of these assets have evolved dramatically from the earlier viewpoint of repair upon failure to today’s strategy of prevent failure and detect failure at the earliest opportunity to minimize repair costs. Asset management methods, tools, and practices are applied throughout an asset’s life in order to achieve the availability and operating cost goals set out in their capital justification.

This is the first webinar in a four-part webinar series, entitled “Maintenance and Reliability for Chemical Engineers.' The series covers the key points of Asset Management for the process engineering and mechanical professional faced with asset life challenges across all manufacturing industries. This first webinar explores the evolution of maintenance, its intended function, value of reliability and the components of Asset Management.

Please note that this was the first session of a four-part series. Each session requires separate registration, and is designed to function both as a standalone presentation and correlated material. Attending each of the four sessions is suggested, but not required, for attending the others. The second webinar provides an understanding of machine failure and how preventative and predictive methods are applied for asset care. The third webinar describes and demonstrates the tools of Reliability – root cause, defect elimination, failure modes and effects analysis, reliability-centered maintenance, and bad actor management. Metrics is also covered to create balanced scorecards for your facility. Finally, the fourth webinar encompasses how to develop a business case for reliability including assessment, analysis, and implementation of a plan.
