Ionic Liquids are non-volatile organic salts that have low melting points, frequently below room temperature. Typical compounds are comprised of a quaternary ammonium, quaternary phosphonium, imidazolium or pyridinium cation with a wide variety of common anions. They are being explored for a variety of applications, including as solvents for separations.
This webinar will cover the use of Ionic Liquids for both liquid and gas separations, emphasizing how the choice of anion, cation and functional groups can be used to tailor Ionic Liquids for specific separations. In particular, we will show results for using Ionic Liquids to extract alcohols from aqueous solutions. In addition, we will explore the use of Ionic Liquids for separation of carbon dioxide from gas mixtures, including flue gas.
