In this webinar, the interns from the 2011 AIChE WISE program (Washington Internships for Student Engineering) present projects focusing on energy issues in the United States. Mikkel Vandebergh from Oregon State University argues that instead of a federal RES, a federal mandate for state renewable electricity standards should be implemented to gain the benefits of a RES program. Martha Hay from Virgina Tech examines the pros and cons of a biomass alternative to address the current energy crisis, focusing specifically on corn-based ethanol. Anita Luong from Johns Hopkins presents her project on the regulatory and market barriers that hinder the deployment of electric energy storage onto the power grid.
