The United States is abundant in biomass resources. The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) have been conducting research on conversion of biomass into chemical products and advanced fuels for several decades. In this presentation, the author will discuss significant research advancement, current status, and challenges. PNNL's participation and research directions of two recent DOE-funded consortia, National Advanced Biofuels Consortium, the National Alliance for Advanced Biofuels and Byproducts - an Algal Biofuels Consortium, will be shared.
