I am a clinical chemist and Chief Scientist at PCLS. We work closely with physicians to provide diagnostic support in the practice of laboratory medicine and patient care. Personalized medicine is an area of great potential and laboratory medicine is the translational point. It is evident that metabolomics, proteomics and genomics have an expanding diagnostic role. The excitement of genetics based testing will continue to grow as it informs disease fingerprinting. The clinical laboratory is widely adopting liquid chromatography mass spectrometry for assays previously limited to immunochemistry. This technology is particularly suited for biomolecular analyses due to its large dynamic range in detection, along with the highest analyte specificity.
