Otis Shelton
Bio
Otis Shelton is Director of Praxair’s Corporate Safety and Environmental Services Assessment Program for Praxair facilities worldwide. He received his BS and MS in chemical engineering from the Univ. of Houston. He joined Union Carbide (UC; Texas City, TX) and held a variety of manufacturing assignments to improve process operations, later applying business analysis and financial management skills in assignments at the company’s headquarters. In 1986, he helped lead the development and implementation of an audit program that provided in-depth evaluations of UC’s facilities. In 1992, Otis joined Praxair to lead its global audit program.
Otis is an AIChE Fellow, a leader in his community and in his profession. He served on the Board of Directors (2000–2002) and as Secretary (2004–2006), and helped direct the Institute during a difficult financial period. He is the outgoing chair of the Government Relations Committee, and a member of the Board of Trustees and the Minority Affairs Committee. Otis served 20 years on the National Advisory Board of the National Society of Black Engineers, and for five years on the National Research Council’s Committee on Chemical Demilitarization.
