M. R. Riazi
M. R. Riazi is currently a professor of Chemical Engineering at Kuwait University. He has a BSc in Chemical Engineering (with first class honor) from Arya Mehr University of Technology and MSc and PhD degrees both in Chemical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He was previously an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at Pennsylvania State University and Visiting Scholar or Faculty at Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Sharif (Arya Mehr) University of Technology, Wright State University, University of Illinois at Chicago, McGill University, University of Waterloo and University of Texas at Austin. Professor Riazi has more than 140 publications including three books. He is the sole author of “Characterization and Properties of Petroleum Fractions” printed twice by ASTM International and its solutions manual. He has been the lead and managing editor and co-author of “Petroleum Refining and Natural Gas Processing” a comprehensive handbook in downstream technology. He has presented more than 70 conference papers including 10 invited keynote talks for various international conferences around the globe in about 30 countries. He was also an invited discussion leader in the session “Igniting The Culture of Discovery” at the World Economic Forum on Middle East in which many world heads of states, political and business leaders as well as some Nobel Laureates were attending.
Professor Riazi has conducted over 50 short courses and workshops in the areas of petroleum production and processing in Europe, Middle East and South East Asia as well as 50 invited seminars and invited talks for major universities, research institutes and oil companies in Canada, United States, United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Poland, Austria, Middle East, North Africa, India, Malaysia, China and Australia. His research interests have covered applied thermodynamics and transport processes, reservoir engineering and management, thermophysical properties and phase behavior of hydrocarbon systems, characterization of petroleum, reservoir fluids and heavy oils, modeling of gas and liquid adsorption problems, solar energy, modeling of oil spills, heavy oil production and processing and polymers for petroleum production as well as gas absorption and solid dissolution with chemical reaction.
Professor Riazi is the founding editor and editor-in-chief of International Journal of Oil, Gas and Coal Technology (IJOGCT) as well as an Associate Editor of Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering (Elsevier) since 2004 and member of editorial board of several other international journals. He has received certificate of appreciation and recognition for his reviewing/editorial work from American Chemical Society and Elsevier and has been on the Review Board of AIChE Journal since 1984 and has reviewed hundreds of scientific articles for distinguished journals in the United States and Europe as well as Research Proposals for ACS and Canadian Government. He has received a Diploma of Honor from National (American) Petroleum Engineering Society in 1995 for outstanding services to the petroleum industry as well as research and teaching awards from several universities including the highest Researcher Award from Kuwait University and a Prize by the former Amir of Kuwait.
