Joseph Smith
Bio
Joseph D. Smith currently holds the Laufer Endowed Energy Chair at Missouri University of Science and Technology (formally Missouri Rolla) where he also serves as Director of the Energy Research and Development Center, positions to which he brings over 25 years of diversified experience in academia and industry. Dr. Smith has published over 35 papers, has given more than 60 conference papers, and holds seven patents with one pending. He contributed two chapters to the John Zink Combustion Handbook and published one chapter in the CRC Industrial Burner Handbook. Dr. Smith has served as an expert witness for Flare Performance and Hydrocarbon Processing. He has significant experience in the fossil energy industry, including application of multi-physics CFD based models for coal combustion, biomass gasification, and industrial furance optimization. Dr. Smith is a certified Cause and Origin Fire Investigator and is certified by the Department of Homeland Security for determining Critical Infrastructure Risk.
