John Chen
Bio
Dr. John C. Chen is the Emeritus C. R. Anderson Professor of Chemical Engineering and Dean of Engineering at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Dr. Chen’s research has concentrated on transport phenomena in multiphase systems. His work has impacted engineering practices for power generation, energy systems, environmental technologies, and chemical processing. Among Dr. Chen’s honors are the Melville Medal for archival literature from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Classic Paper Award from ASME, and the Alexander von Humboldt Senior Research Award and the Max Planck Research Prize from Federal Republic of Germany.
The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) has awarded Dr. Chen its D. Q. Kern Award for research with practical impact, and the Heat Transfer and Energy Conversion Division Award. In 2001, ASME and AIChE jointly presented him with the highest international recognition in thermal sciences - the Max Jakob Memorial Award. Dr. Chen has been appointed Fellow in both AIChE and ASME, and is a past President of AIChE.
