Dan Summers is the Tray Technology Manager for Sulzer Chemtech, USA at their Tulsa, Oklahoma facility. After graduating from the SUNY at Buffalo in 1977, he started his career with Union Carbide’s Separations Design Group in West Virginia. He has since worked for Praxair, UOP, Stone & Webster Engineering and Nutter Engineering.
For the past 35 years, Dan has been involved in the design, operation, and troubleshooting of all forms of tower internals in the hydrocarbon, specialty chemical, refining, air separation, and natural gas industries. He is the author of more than 58 papers on distillation and two US patents. His specialty is high capacity tray devices.
He is the Chair of FRI’s Design Practices Committee, Co-Chair of AIChE's Tower Internals Testing Procedure re-write committee, a registered professional engineer, a Fellow of AIChE and a Charter Member of AIChE’s Separation Division and has been a full member of AIChE his entire career.
