T. BOND CALLOWAY, JR., is the Associate Laboratory Director for Clean Energy at Savannah River National Laboratory, where he leads a team of scientists and engineers conducting basic and applied research related to renewable and nuclear energy research. Bond is also responsible for leading the strategic planning and innovation for SRNL. He has more than 30 years of industrial experience in the research and development, design, construction, and operation of DOE’s nuclear/chemical process systems including both the Savannah River Site’s Defense Waste Processing Facility and Hanford, WA’s Waste Treatment Plant. He is the author of more than 50 papers on various aspects of nuclear waste and energy research. He holds a degree in chemical engineering from Auburn University.
Bond received the American Institute of Chemical Engineer (AIChE) Herb Epstein for meritorious contributions to AIChE and demonstrated dedication to the chemical engineering profession. He was awarded the Robert E. Wilson award in 2014 for outstanding chemical engineering contributions to the nuclear industry for his expertise in modeling, offgas handling and process control. Bond was awarded the 2011 DOE Energy Sustainability award for his renewable energy research technology development, deployment and education in South Carolina. Bond has won a R&D 100 award for advanced sensor technology and is a fellow of AIChE.
Mr. Calloway was elected to the AIChE Board of Directors 2011 – 2013. He was the co-chair of the 2009 AIChE Annual Meeting, the 2014 AIChE Natural Gas Utilization workshop and the 2014 National Science Foundation Workshop on Process Intensification. Bond currently serves on the Center for Energy Initiatives Executive Board, Environmental Progress & Sustainable Energy (EP&SE) Journal Editorial Advisory Board, Chemical Engineering Progress (CEP) Editorial Board and the Public Affairs & Information Committee. As a member of the CEP Editorial Advisory Board and Center for Energy Initiatives, Bond leads special section devoted to energy topics which is published yearly in CEP. As a member of EP&SE Editorial Board, Bond is currently leading a special edition of the journal devoted to natural gas which will be published in 2015. He was past chair of the AIChE Research & New Technology Committee, past chair of the Nuclear Engineering Division, is a Director in his local section and has served on the Chemical Technology Operating Council and Executive Board of the Programming Committee.
