Marathon seeks permit to boost Detroit refinery throughput

Michigan regulators are soliciting public comment on Marathon Petroleum's application for a permit to eliminate monthly and yearly throughput limits at its Detroit refinery, with a goal to run the facility at its full 140,000-barrel-per-day capacity without interruptions. A public hearing is set for May 22. Local environmental groups are concerned that the permit would increase refinery emissions, but Marathon plans to mitigate pollution by upgrading equipment and processes.
