NSEF 2006 Winners
NSEF honored Professor Ronald Andres with the Forum Award for his leadership and pioneering innovation in the production, utilization and fundamental understanding of the mechanical, electronic, and magnetic properties of nanoparticles and nanoparticle arrays. Professor Andes is Emeritus Professor of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University where he chaired the School of Chemical Engineering. He was a research pioneer in nanotechnology contributing among the first research in metal nanocrystals. He also was instrumental in the development of the National Nanotechnology Initiative. Today his research spans the areas of molecular electronics and sensing, synthesis of ultrafine metal particles, self-assembly of 2-D and 3-D nanoparticle structures, and nanoparticle targeting of cancer cells.
"Theory and Simulation for the Advancement of Nanoscience and Technology"
NSEF honored Professor Michael Wong with the Young Investigator Award for his advances made in the development of superior nanoparticle catalysts for groundwater purification and in the assembly chemistry and scalable production of nanoparticles. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and in the Department of Chemistry at Rice University. His research focuses on heterogeneous catalysis, encapsuloation and delivery, materials chemistry, surface chemistry and green chemistry.
