Marco Castaldi, Assistant Professor, Earth & Environmental Engineering at Columbia University

Marco Castaldi was born in New York City and received his B.S. ChE (Magna cum Laude) from Manhattan College. His Ph.D. is in Chemical Engineering from UCLA and he has minors in Advanced Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics. Prior to joining Columbia University he worked in industry for 9 years. Marco has a number of inventions as a result of his research, supported by 6 issued and 2 pending US patents.
Castaldi’s Professional Activities:
- Sustainability Steward and Vice-President for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE)
- Chairman of the North American Catalysis Society’s New York Metropolitan Section
- Treasurer of the American Mechanical Engineering Society (ASME) Material & Energy Recovery Division
- Director of Experimental Activities for the Earth Engineering Center of the Earth Institute
- Waste to Energy Research and Technology Council of Columbia University.
Marco J. Castaldi is Professor in the Earth & Environmental Engineering Department (Henry Krumb School of Mines), Columbia University where he has been since 2004. He teaches in the area of combustion chemistry and processes. He is currently involved in research in the area of environmentally benign energy technologies some of which are patented by Columbia.
