Nominations for 2013 winners will be accepted starting Fall 2012
Deadline: November 30, 2012

Award Highlights

  • The award is open to any AIChE professional member of more than 3 years of membership.
  • Nominations can be made by any member of their local section, but the nomination must be presented by the local section officers.
  • A section can submit up to two nominations per award cycle.
  • Unlike Program Planning or McKetta ProjectConnect grants, a local section can win more than one Shining Star Award per section per calendar years since this is an individual member award versus a local section award.
  • The type of volunteer service that this award is designed to recognize can be for volunteering in a long-term commitment capacity to guide the local section or mentoring young engineers in the local section. It can also be to recognize an individual for a significant contribution to a large event (ie- Regional Conference, Student/Young Professional event, Leadership Development Conference, etc.). The volunteer has to have served above and beyond or made a significant contribution as determined by the local section officers.  We are looking for those volunteers that show
    • Dedication and personal commitment to AIChE and the Local Section
    • Willingness to take on a daunting task
    • Set an example for others
    • Willingness to step up and help the section when it needed it the most
    • A long history of service to the section
    • Infusion of new ideas / energy into the section
  • There is no requirement on section size. Both large and small sections should use this award to recognize their unsung heroes that keep the local section vital to its members. Even small contributions have a significant impact!
  • Nominations must be received by November 30 and recipients will earn the award for redemption for one of the three national events in the following calendar year.

Nomination Procedure

  • Download and complete the Nomination Form
  • Submit the nomination form to the Local Section Board for approval.  All nomination must be approved by the local section officers (chair, vice-chair, secretary, treasurer, directors) to be considered for this award.  A suggested quorum of at least three officers is preferred.
  • Send the completed and approved nomination form to the Local Sections Committee (LSC   -- localsections@aiche.org) for review.  Awards granted are based on merit as decided by the Local Sections Committee. The LSC can grant awards on a first come, first served basis if there are not enough eligible nominations to fill the number of awards. If there are more eleigible nominations than awards, then the LSC will chose the best nominations to determine the winners.
