Phillip R. Westmoreland & Kathleen J. Beach

Phillip R. Westmoreland was 2013 President of AIChE. He is 2015 vice-chair of the AIChE Public Affairs and Information Committee, a trustee of the AIChE Foundation, and a trustee and past president of the educational nonprofit CACHE Corporation.

He is Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at North Carolina State University (NCSU). His chemical engineering degrees are from NCSU (BS, 1973), Louisiana State University (MS, 1974), and MIT (PhD, 1986). He has previously worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory/Union Carbide (1974_1979), as a ChE faculty member at the Univ. of Massachusetts Amherst (1986_2009), and as a program director at the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C. (2006_2009).

An AIChE Fellow, Phil began service as public relations chair and secretary in the Knoxville-Oak Ridge Section. He was Chair of the Central New England Section, founding Chair of the Computational Molecular Science and Engineering Forum (CoMSEF), and Chair of the National Program Committee, and he has served on the Boards of Directors of AIChE, the forums CoMSEF and NSEF, the Catalysis and Reaction Engineering Division, the Combustion Institute, and the Council for Chemical Research.
