Greenhouse Gas Measurement Workshop

The United Engineering Foundation (UEF) Founders Society (FS) Carbon Measurement Team has been formed to identify technical issues surrounding green house gas measurement for potential changes in legislation. The team is comprised of industry, government, non-governmental organizations, and academic representatives experienced in green house gas quantification. The team is working with and under the umbrella of the UEF FS Technologies for Carbon Management Project and is a unified effort across all the engineering disciplines.
The team’s objective is to identify gaps, barriers, educational requirements, etc. that would enable an organization to report accurate, consistent, verifiable, timely, and transparent green house gas values. The team’s intent is to learn from early adopters and determine where the greater engineering community can assist in these in these calculations. What issues need to be addressed such that the integrity of proposed legislation can be met with resulting environmental improvement. The outcome of this workshop will determine a path forward for 2010.

The GHG measurement workshop was held on December 6 to 8, 2009. A preliminary summary from the workshop is available and the team continues to meet to discuss gaps and needs for early adoptors.
