Celebrate National Engineers Week and celebrate the world of difference engineers make to our quality of life. Participating in "E-Week" is a great way to increase local awareness and interest in the fields of engineering, math, science, and technology.

Nominate a colleague or yourself to the New Faces of Engineering 2007! Engineers Week recognizes the accomplishments of all engineers. The New Faces of Engineering program highlights the interesting and unique work of young engineers and the resulting impact on society. Young engineers two to five years out of school are the focus of this recognition program. Engineers Week sponsoring societies nominated young working engineers from among their membership. AIChE 2007 Local Section E-Week Activities:

Susquehanna local section along with members from the CPEWC will be volunteering at the Whitaker Center E-week exhibit. The exhibit will seek to provide, students, teachers and professionals a better understanding of engineering professions. Email PKabatek@aol.com for more information.

T he Chicago Local Section will be participating in the DuPage Area E-Week activities at the University of Illinois Rice Campus. The Chicago local section will be one of the many Engineering societies setting up interactive displays to teach grade and middle school students about engineering. The Chicago Sections put on a demonstration of turning soy bean oil, ethanol and table sugar into bio-diesel fuel with the help of students. For more information click here.

The New York Metro section will be hosting an E-Week dinner which will include speeches on the pertinent topic of "Preparing for New York City's Katrina" by two Stony Brook University Professors. Furthermore Mayor Bloomberg's proclamation on Engineers week will be presented and the family of Victor Wouk and NY State Senator will be presented with awards. For more information click here.

The Pittsburgh section has been participating for over 10 years at the Carnegie Science Center for “hands-on” displays/experiments during National Engineers Week. This year, the event is on Feb. 16 & 17. The Pittsburgh section will be making superballs (bouncy balls from purchased kits) event as well as making chemical compound models using gumdrops and toothpicks to explain engineering to students and children.. AIChE 2006 E-Week Activities:
- The University of Kentucky hosted an Engineering Day Open House at its extended campus in Paducah, Kentucky. Students in the AIChE Student Chapter sponsored events including the "Who Wants to be an Engineer?" game and a Hands-On Engineering session featuring "Make Your Own Gloop". Two AIChE members staged a popular chemically oriented presentation, "The Wizard's Wonderful World of Chemistry". Members also demonstrated their fuel-cell powered Chem-E Car. The North Jersey Local Section honored 9 outstanding seniors from NJIT and Stevens Institute of Technology with scholarships, in honor of National Engineers Week, at their February 21, 2006 local section meeting at NJIT. For more information, click here.

The New Orleans Local Section and the New Orleans Chapter of the Louisiana Engineering Society hosted their annual Engineers' Week Banquet on Wednesday, February 22, 2006. Col. Richard P. Wagenaar, Commander of the US Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District. Col. Wagenaar presented "The Corps' Hurricane Response." Attendance was worth one hour of credit in continuing professional development.

Sally Ride Foundation at the National Building Museum: Free workshop February 18, 2006.
AIChE members were invited to attend a FREE workshop, "As You Teach Science: Why Gender Equity Matters and How You Can Create An Equitable Classroom" led by the Sally Ride Science Foundation at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C., on Saturday, February, 18, 2006. Hour long workshop sessions were offered at 10:30 AM or 2:30 PM in museum classroom 318. A professional development certificate from the Sally Ride Science Foundation was awarded to those who attend.
National Engineers Week Future City CompetitionTM February 20-22, 2006. A program developed for seventh and eighth grade students to help them discover and foster interests in math, science and engineering.
Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, February 23, 2006: Takes on New Urgency- Girl Day is an all out effort to reach out to young women and girls worldwide, and encourage them to consider a career in engineering.
