November 16 - 21, 2008 - AIChE Annual Meeting in Philadelphia
One of the special sessions will include a discussion of the National Academies’ “Alternative Liquid Transportation Fuels: Technology Opportunities, Risks, and Tradeoffs.” This project, begun last year, examines the technical potential for reducing reliance on petroleum-based fuels for transportation, principally in automobiles and trucks but in other vehicles and transportation modes as well, through the use of alternatives to traditional petroleum sources. The focus is on liquid fuels produced from plant feedstocks and liquid fuels that can be derived from coal feedstocks. The project is sponsored by The National Academies, Dow Chemical Company, the United States Department of Energy, and Kavli.
