AIChE’s DIPPR Starts Bio Fuels Program
With increased interest in bio-fuels has come the recognition that enhancing the quality of the design and economic evaluations being undertaken of various processes being considered for commercialization requires more robust and validated physical property and separation data than are currently available. DIPPR (see http://www.aiche.org/dippr/) sponsors have embarked on an effort to address these shortcomings. The major focus of this effort will be towards bio-diesel compounds such as fatty acids, methyl and ethyl esters of fatty acids, alcohols, and glycerol. In addition, various carbohydrates (e.g. sugars, celluloses, hemi-celluloses) and lignin type compounds will be studied. The initial focus will be on standard DIPPR 801 pure component properties (see http://dippr.byu.edu/) with expansion into some mixture properties such as water solubility, VLE, and LLE.
