Process Development & Chemical Manufacturing | AIChE

Session Chairs:

  • Ravi Dixit, The Dow Chemical Company
  • Ajay Madgavkar, Consultant

Session Description:

Successful process development involves scaling up process information from concept to commercial scale while meeting safety, technical and economic objectives as well as meeting customer and market expectations.  Process development includes process research and innovation; scale-up; process design, construction and operation of pilot plant or laboratory units; technology transfer; and optimization of manufacturing processes.  Different scale up strategy is used depending on whether the product is a large volume commodity chemical or a specialty product for a niche market.  In this session the emphasis will be on process development strategies for specialty chemical manufacturing involving both batch and continuous processes, and those demonstrating technology integration and sustainable principles.
