2012 Undergraduate Student Poster Competition | AIChE

Join fellow students as they present posters on findings in sustainability, catalysis and reaction engineering, computing and process control, environmental aspects of chemical engineering, as well as food, pharmaceutical, bioengineering, fuels, petrochemicals, energy, materials, separations, among other topics.

Are You a Student Submitting a Poster?

  • The deadline for abstract submissions is on Friday, October 5, 2012
  • Your poster must fit in a space of 8 ft wide by 4 ft high. Any posters, visual aids etc. should all fit in the space provided. It’s recommended that your displays be a bit smaller than the 8 ft wide x 4 ft high space to fit properly on the poster board.
  • As in the past, all poster abstracts submitted by this deadline will be accepted for presentation.

Our goal is to get as many students involved in this as possible! We cannot guarantee that any late abstracts will be accepted, so please take time now to submit your abstract before the deadline.

As a part of the submission process, you will be asked to first pick a topic area from a list of 10 areas for your poster.

Topics

  1. General
  2. Catalysis and Reaction Engineering
  3. Sustainability
  4. Food, Pharmaceutical, and Biotechnology
  5. Separations
  6. Environmental
  7. Education
  8. Fuels, Petrochemicals, and Energy
  9. Computing and Process Control
  10. Materials Engineering and Sciences.

Submit Poster

Please note:

If you have any question about which topical area is best for your poster, I suggest you consult with your faculty research advisor at your school. If your topic fits into one of the selection 2 through 10, we would prefer you not to use the “General” category. If no topical seems particularly appropriate as capturing a substantial portion of your work, you may put it into the “General” topic area.  It should also be noted that all posters are potentially subject to a movement to a different topic area by the session organizers if it is deemed appropriate based on the abstract of the work submitted.

As in the past, each poster will be judged by a panel of typically 3 to 4 AIChE professional members from both academia and industry.  The top posters in each topic area will be given awards and recognition at the end of the poster session.

In addition, if you are interested in pursuing graduate school in chemical engineering, the poster session is a great opportunity to meet faculty from a large variety of chemical engineering graduate programs from around the country as they tour (and potentially judge) the posters.

Remember to mention the fact that you are participating in the poster session to the graduate school representatives you meet during the Recruitment Fair on Sunday morning so that they can hopefully come see your poster and discuss your work with you.  Such interactions can make important differences in the recruitment and admissions process.

Likewise, if you are looking for an industrial job, this is a great opportunity to become active in AIChE at the national level (which companies will look favorably upon) and demonstrate that you have been active beyond the classroom.  Again, be sure to mention your participation in the poster session to company representatives at the Recruitment Fair on Sunday morning as well.

Over the years, the poster session has become one of the highlights of the annual student conference, and with close to 200 students presenting each year, it is the largest forum for ChE undergraduates to present their research activity to the professional community at large.
