Call For Nominations - Board Member Elections

Dear TGCS Member:

This is a call for nominations for the 2015 Board Members. The position descriptions are below. Please send you nominations to tgcs@aiche.org. Please send your nominations by Oct 25, 2014.

Position Descriptions:

President

  • Voting member of the board
  • Calls and conducts monthly board meetings (1 hr duration)
  • Motivates and encourages other officers to support and organize activities
  • Maintains frequent communication between the Local Section and AIChE
  • Submits a full slate of officers to AIChE
  • Submits a Local Section Annual Report to AIChE
  • Appoints volunteers to the Local Section leadership
  • Has signature authority for the bank account
  • Reviews the section’s financial condition with the treasurer
  • Works with the Vice-President to help set goals and agenda for the following year
  • May serve on the Nominating Committee

Vice-President

  • Voting member of the board
  • Designs the technical presentation schedule with input from the section officers (typically one technical presentation per month, excluding summer months)
  • Attends monthly board meetings
  • Fills in for the President during Board meetings as needed
  • Assists the President in key leadership duties
  • Acts as Social Committee Chair if one is not assigned
  • Design goals and agenda for the following year with assistance from other officers
  • Has signature authority for the bank account
  • Execute special projects as deemed necessary by the president or other officers
  • May serve on the Nominating Committee
  • Communicates with other science and engineering associations in the area to organize joint events. Active organizations in our area include ACS, IEEE, ASME, and NOBCChE

Secretary 

  • Voting member of the board
  • Attends monthly board meetings and keeps the board and section meeting minutes.  Accurately records discussions, motions and votes
  • Distribute copies to the board and have them approved, either as issued or amended, before the next meeting
  • Follow up on action items from previous meetings
  • Maintain the section files
  • Maintain tax exempt, legal and incorporation documents
  • Be familiar with the AIChE Constitution and Bylaws, as well as the section by laws
  • Work with the Executive Committee to prepare agendas for all section meetings
  • Correspond with AIChE on section business, including officer information changes, as they occur
  • Corresponds with AIChE members on section meetings, technical presentation, and social events
  • Maintains active email distribution list for correspondence

Treasurer

  • Voting member of the board
  • Attends monthly board meetings
  • Prepare an annual budget
  • Prepare an end of year financial summary, submit it to AIChE with the Local Section annual report
  • Has signature authority for the bank account
  • Presents monthly reports on the section’s financials to the board including status of bank balances, dues collections, expenses relating to special projects, and any abnormal drain on funds
  • Works with AIChE to arrange Local Section dues accounting and remittance
  • Maintains copies and records of all transactions
  • Updates signature card for Local Section bank account

Director (four positions available)

  • Voting members of the board
  • Attends monthly board meetings
  • Provides input  about section activities and organizational practices
  • Assists President in appointing volunteers to the Local Section leadership, especially committee chairs
  • Serves on the committees assigned to you by the executive committee. If a committee chair does not exist for your assigned committee, the director acts as the committee chair.
  • Works with the assigned committees in understanding their mission and annual goals
  • Represents the committees in matters before the Board of Directors serving as their communication link
  • May serve on the Nominating Committee
  • Audits the Local Section’s annual financial report
  • Execute special projects as deemed important to the Local Section

Past-President

  • Voting member of the board

  • Provides advice to officers offering insights and comments about section activities and organizational practices
  • May serve on the Nominating Committee
  • Executes special projects as deemed important to the Local Section
  • Serves as E-Week committee chair or co-chair; organizes middle school presentations and E-Week Awards Banquet including acquiring a speaker

WebMaster

  • Non-voting member of leadership team
  • Creates a Local Section webpage, with a focus of information on how to get involved, calendar and scheduling for the Local Section, continuing education and job opportunities and leadership recruitment
  • Maintains Local Section webpage in a timely matter, updating officer information, upcoming events and other calendar information as applicable
  • Research new links, social networks and applications that will help keep the website up-to-date
  • Monthly web posting of Local Section newsletter
  • Update AIChE on any changes to the Local Section website address or information

E-Week Committee Chair – Past-President serves as chair or co-chair

  • Organizes events for local high school/grade school students that orients them to the field of chemical engineering
  • Works with local Student Chapter to organize chemical engineering themed events
  • Organizes participation in local community science/engineering event
  • Shares program with AIChE

Professional Development Committee Chair

  • Surveys what continuing education sessions would be most useful to Local Section members
  • Schedules sessions in conjunction with Local Section meetings
  • Offers sessions as stand-alone seminars or professional development days
  • Encourages Local Section members to participate in webinars offered by AIChE


Texas Gulf Coast Section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineering

Mission Statement

The mission of the AIChE is to promote excellence in the development and practice of chemical engineering. Key strategies include:

·        Providing forums for the advancement of chemical engineering in theory and practice

·        Providing opportunities for individual chemical engineers to enhance their professional skills and capabilities

·        Upholding and advancing high professional standards and ethics

·        Communicating knowledge and understanding of the chemical engineering profession to the various publics we serve.

The Texas Gulf Coast Section of AIChE supports this mission by providing a local forum for interaction among chemical engineers and other professionals in chemical and related industries. Meetings and activities are provided for the sharing of information related to the chemical engineering profession and math and science, in general. Opportunities are given for the public and particularly students to learn more about chemical engineers and chemical engineering. Leadership and organizational skills of individuals are enhanced through involvement in section activities. In all of these ways, the local section supports the AIChE mission.
