Fellow NSEF members,

Since 2003, NSEF has provided a key forum within AIChE for members to exchange ideas and expertise in the area of nanoscale science and technology, and I am honored to take over as chair of the forum. Kurt Rindfusz did an outstanding job of leading our forum over the last two years as chair, and I look forward to building on the current foundation of NSEF. In addition to my new position as chair, we have the following elected officers that took office this year:

  • Kurt Rindfusz, Past Chair
  • Jessica Winter, Vice Chair
  • Virginia Davis, Secretary-Treasurer
  • Hebab Quazi, Director (at-large member)
  • Thomas Mensah, Director (at-large member)

In addition, we would like to welcome Micah Green as the new Director of Programming, and we would like to welcome back Jung-Sheng (JS) Wu as our Director of Technology.

With the 2013 AIChE Annual Meeting upon us, we have another outstanding program planned. Nicholas A. Peppas will be recognized with the NSEF Forum Award for pioneering innovations in nanoscale science and chemical engineering that enabled the development of intelligent nanoscale biomaterials and therapeutic delivery vehicles to advance patient care. Daeyeon Lee will be recognized with the NSEF Young Investigator Award for pioneering discoveries and inventions in layer-by-layer assembly, multiphase, microfluidics, Janus particle-stabilized emulsions, and ultrastrong crack resistant nanopolymer films, impacting energy, biotechnology, and electronics applications. Please join us for NSEF award presentations in the NSEF Plenary Session on Monday, November 4, 2013, 3:15 PM - 5:45 PM in Continental 2 (Hilton). NSEF sponsors or co-sponsors over 50 sessions at the meeting, with various highlights such as the NSEF Plenary session, Bionanotechnology Plenary sessions, Bionanotechnology Graduate Student Award session, NSEF Poster session, etc. The NSEF reception will be held at the Hilton San Francisco, Union Square, Room Golden Gate 1 on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM. We hope to see you all there. Come meet our officers and award winners to learn more about the NSEF.

I hope each of you consider increasing your level of involvement with NSEF. If you are interested in getting more involved in NSEF, please contact me at:
